Hello, and welcome to my website. I've been a trial lawyer for fifteen years. Until 1999, I practiced in a variety of fields including trademark and business litigation, personal injury, civil rights, and both prosecution and defense of criminal cases. Since 1999, when I became the lead lawyer in a major domain name lawsuit, I've been almost exclusively engaged in the growing field of Cyberlaw. Eventually Cyberlaw will eclipse the entire field of law. As the social and business landscape continue changing at warp speed, courts and the law are lagging behind. The legal profession is discovering that Cyberlaw is all about going "back to the future." For example, law enforcement announces the discovery of a "new crime" called "identity theft." New laws, we hear, are needed to protect people from this new crime. But identity theft is an old crime called "false personation," that is usually accomplished with the aid of forgery, which is also re-emerging as a common crime. There are laws against forgery and false personation in every state in the union, and thus little need for new laws. In the bad old days, phony deeds, wills, and governmental documents were common -- much of the State of California was stolen from Mexican citizens using forgery. But just try convincing a court in a civil lawsuit that a document has been forged. Strangely enough, you face an uphill battle in a legal world where forgery is no longer discussed in the standard law school curriculum. Courts are slowly realizing that forgery occurs routinely nowadays, but in the meantime, lives and fortunes are destroyed. When the law falls behind, people suffer. As the stories below illustrate, I have already had two clients victimized by forgery, and in one case, the forgery was produced accidentally by a computer. One client lost millions, and the other lost his freedom and his health.
